Many people have absolutely no idea what the Hoodia Gordonii plant is, so here we are going to take a look at it a little bit further and increase people’s awareness about it. The plant itself can be found in Namibia or South Africa and is known for the medicinal properties that it contains. It looks a lot like a cactus, having a prickly outer layer to it.
There has been a lot of hype associated with it recently with it being used as an aid for weight loss by many people around the world. Bushmen have been said to have used it when on long hunting trips to keep any hunger and thirst that they may feel at bay. They would eat the plants in order to have these effects.
With this being found out made people want to market the product quickly knowing that it would be something that people would want to try. It is available over the internet or in health food stores in many forms. Capsules, liquid, and other forms of it can be found for people that may be interested in giving it a try.
There have not been any tests done on humans as of yet, but there have been some things done on rats and mice. In one study there were rats that were injected with doses of hoodia and then some that were given a placebo to see how they would differ. The rats that got the actual hoodia ate less than the rats that were not given it. There needs to be testing done on humans that will support the claims that they too find the effects to reduce the appetite that they have.
A news correspondent had taken the trip to Africa wanting to try hoodia gordonii for herself to see if the claims that the Bushmen made were true. She ate the plant as instructed by a Bushman that took her where it was found and stated that it was similar to a cucumber in regards to the texture and not too bad.
The results that were found were exactly like the claims of the Bushmen from years ago. Along with this there were no side effects noted either. The thirst and hunger that would normally be felt through the course of a day were not there at all the day that this was done.
Now with this said, we can assume that there is truth to the claims that Hoodia Gordonii is an appetite suppressant. But irregardless of this there needs to be more tests done with the drug to see what other benefits it may have. Sooner or later testing will be done with Hoodia Gordonii to ensure the safety it has for us all. It has been rumoured to be associated with kidney problems. This would make it a definite no no for pregnant women or children to take until there is some evidence to support this either way.
Hoodia Gordonii is like anything else that is out there on the market that people are unsure of. It is wise to do some research on such things before putting them into your body.
